A Welsh Government initiative aimed at supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) has achieved a significant milestone, creating its 5,000th job. The Business Wales Accelerated Growth Programme, launched in 2015, has been instrumental in supporting growth and expansion among participating businesses.

The program’s success was marked by Tiago Szabo starting work at Hi-Mark, a Wrexham-based automotive design and manufacturing company. Economy Secretary Ken Skates visited the company’s 25,000 sq ft site to witness this milestone and meet Tiago.

Skates praised the program’s impact, stating, “It’s fantastic to see that it’s now been directly responsible for some of our most ambitious and high potential SMEs creating 5,000 new jobs across Wales.” He attributed this success to the Welsh Government’s proactive business support and the team’s expertise.

Individual and Business Impact

The program’s significance extends beyond job creation. Skates highlighted its effect on individuals across Wales, saying, “It’s 5,000 jobs that may otherwise not have been created.” He expressed pride in helping people like Tiago secure employment at companies with strong growth potential.

Hi-Mark, a company with over 40 years of experience in designing and manufacturing injection molded products, has benefited from the program. The company’s 40-strong workforce utilizes cutting-edge technology to produce components for major automotive companies worldwide.

Managing Director Jack Yates explained that the program helped them through a tricky negotiation phase with a major customer, resulting in securing a significant order. He also credited the program with establishing a new sales and networking framework, stating, “Since signing up, Hi-Mark has gone from strength to strength.”

Future Investment and Growth Strategies

Hi-Mark plans to invest in robotics and automation to increase efficiency and support further growth. This marks the third job supported at the company through the Accelerated Growth Programme.
